A Dhaka court has granted bail to actress Nusraat Faria in a case filed over the alleged attempted murder of a man named Enamul Haque during the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital’s Bhatara area.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after Nusraat Faria’s lawyer submitted a bail petition. Following the hearing, the court granted her bail upon a bond of Tk 5,000.

Earlier, on Sunday (May 18), Nusraat Faria was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while attempting to travel to Thailand. She was subsequently handed over to the Vatara police station. After interrogation, Nusraat Faria was shown arrested in connection with the case filed at the police station.

The following day, Monday, she was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka. The investigating officer requested that she be kept in custody until the investigation is completed. Meanwhile, Nusraat Faria’s lawyers submitted a bail application on her behalf. After hearing both sides, Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque rejected the bail petition and ordered Nusraat Faria to be sent to jail.

According to the case details, on July 19 of last year, Enamul Haque participated in the July uprising in the area under Vatara police station jurisdiction. During the event, the accused allegedly fired shots, one of which hit the victim in the foot. The victim was hospitalised unconscious and later filed the case on May 3 this year after recovering. The case names 283 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 17 artists, as accused.
