Israel’s military has confirmed conducting an airstrike on the Iranian Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tehran, previously reported by Iranian state media.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the Israeli Air Force carried out “an extensive series of intelligence-based strikes” on multiple targets in the capital.

“The targets included the Iranian Ministry of Defense headquarters, the headquarters of the SPND nuclear project, and additional targets, which advanced the Iranian regime’s efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon and where the Iranian regime hid its nuclear archive,” the IDF said.

Although Iran has significantly advanced its uranium enrichment, it maintains that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and denies developing an atomic bomb.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that the strike caused minor damage to one of the ministry’s administrative buildings. A separate strike in the same area reportedly hit the defense ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research.

Videos posted to social media and geolocated by CNN showed smoke rising from the aftermath of the strike.
