Tehran was rocked by fresh explosions on Sunday, June 15, as Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple locations in the Iranian capital, escalating the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

The attacks followed Iran’s launch of ballistic missiles targeting sites across Israel, including Haifa and Tel Aviv, which killed at least 10 people, according to medics and Israeli media reports.

Residents in Tehran reported loud explosions in several neighbourhoods, including Niavaran in the north, and around Valiasr and Hafte Tir squares in the city centre.

Witnesses in the northwestern districts of Shahrak-e Gharb and Saadat Abad also confirmed hearing significant blasts.

Iranian state media reported that the country’s air defence systems were activated to intercept Israeli projectiles, with videos showing smoke rising over the city.

Iran’s missile barrage targeted key Israeli cities, including Haifa and Tel Aviv, in retaliation for earlier Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. The attacks caused significant damage, with medics reporting at least 10 fatalities and dozens injured across Israel.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran’s response would cease only when Israel halts its attacks on Iran, signalling a potential for further escalation unless a ceasefire is reached.

The tit-for-tat strikes mark the most intense direct confrontation between Israel and Iran to date, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. The targeting of civilian and strategic infrastructure in both countries has heightened tensions, with global leaders urging restraint to prevent further destabilisation in the Middle East.
