In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, the Israeli military launched a targeted strike on the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), in Tehran on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The attack, which briefly disrupted live broadcasts, underscores the intensifying hostilities between the two nations.

The strike hit IRIB’s headquarters in Tehran’s District 3, a densely populated area, during a live broadcast on the Khabar News Network.

Footage captured a female presenter, Sahar Emami, continuing her report as a loud explosion rocked the studio, causing debris to fall. The broadcast was halted for several minutes but resumed shortly after, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

Iran’s state-run media confirmed the attack, directly attributing it to Israel. The strike followed an ominous warning from Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz earlier that day, who declared that IRIB, described as the “mouthpiece of Iranian propaganda and incitement,” was “on the verge of disappearing.” Katz’s statement coincided with an IDF evacuation order for residents in parts of Tehran’s District 3, where IRIB is located, citing imminent strikes on Iranian military infrastructure.

“Your presence in this area endangers your life,” the IDF warned, as reported by spokesperson Avichay Adraee on X. Despite the disruption, IRIB’s broadcasts have since returned to normal, showcasing the network’s resilience amid the chaos.
