Govt purchasing sound grenades, tear gas shells for BGB: Jahangir

The government is purchasing sound grenades and tear gas shells for Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), announced Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday.
He shared this information with the media after a meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Committee at the Secretariat.
On January 18, a clash occurred between citizens of two countries at the Chapainawabganj border. It is alleged that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) used tear gas and sound grenades during the incident. However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) did not use any such weapons.
The Home Affairs Adviser explained that BGB had always been equipped with lethal weapons. Many had questioned why BGB did not use sound grenades or tear gas, but these weapons were not available to them. "They had lethal weapons, which they were unable to use," he said.
The Adviser further clarified, "Since BGB did not have these items, how could they have used them? Now, we have granted approval for their purchase."
When asked about the current situation at the border, the Adviser said, "The situation at the border is stable, and there are no major issues."
