Sarjis Alam, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has stepped down as the general secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation.

He shared this information in a post on his verified Facebook profile at 10:34 am on Wednesday.

“I am no longer the General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation. To accelerate the progress of this foundation, changes have been made in its constitution, structure, and working processes. From now on, the 'Executive Committee' will be responsible for the overall management of the office, with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) acting as the head. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho is currently serving as the CEO,” Sarjis wrote.

He continued, “The 'Governing Body' will focus on the policy-making of the foundation, and it includes the Honorable Chief Advisor and four other advisors (Health, Social Welfare, Local Government, ICT). The position of 'general secretary' no longer exists.”

“The foundation began providing financial assistance on October 1, and the office officially started operating on October 15. I took over as general secretary on October 21 and served for nearly 2 months and 10 days until December 31. I then stepped down from my position, and my signing authority was officially transferred on January 7, marking the end of my responsibilities. During my time in this role, I did not receive any salary or honorarium from the foundation,” he mentioned.

“By December 31, among the 826 verified martyr families, 628 received financial assistance. Additionally, out of nearly 11,000 verified injured individuals, approximately 2,000 received financial assistance,” he added.

“I served the foundation as long as I was able to dedicate my utmost time to it. When I realized that I could no longer provide the necessary time, I stepped down. Addressing my limitations and taking on or relinquishing responsibilities accordingly is not a weakness, but rather requires honest courage. I have strived to remain true to the responsibility associated with my position,” he concluded.
