15 injured as locals attack mob vandalising Mozammel’s house
At least 15 people were injured after being beaten by locals when a mob vandalised the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur.
The attack occurred around 9:30 pm on Friday (February 7) in Dhirashram Dakshinkhan, Gazipur, when a group of students and locals stormed the house.
According to local sources, more than a hundred protesters, including students, stormed Mozammel Haque's house, causing extensive damage to the property. Haque also serves as the President of the Gazipur District Awami League.
During the attack, a mosque loudspeaker announcement alleged that robbers had entered the minister’s house, prompting locals to intervene. Upon hearing this, nearby residents surrounded the house and clashed with the attackers, beating several of them. At least 15 people sustained critical injuries and were taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Arifur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazipur Sadar Police Station, said that locals retaliated when attackers attempted to vandalise Mozammel Haque’s house, injuring at least 10 to 12 people.
Upon receiving the news, police quickly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. As of midnight, the situation remained stable, and authorities had launched an investigation.
