2 suspected snatchers hung upside down, beaten
A video showing several pedestrians tying ropes around the youths' legs, hanging them upside down from the footbridge in Uttara, Dhaka, before beating them with sticks has gone viral on social media.

Two youths were hung upside down from a footbridge in Uttara, Dhaka, on suspicion of being snatchers and were beaten mercilessly by a mob on Tuesday night. Later, the police rescued them and took them to Bangladesh Kuwait-Maitree Hospital, where their condition was reported as critical.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm near the BNS Centre.

The injured youths were identified as Bakul (40) and Nazim (35).

Md Shamim Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, told Jago News, "Upon receiving the information, we rescued the two from the footbridge near the BNS Centre in a serious condition and admitted them to the hospital. Their condition is critical."

When asked why they were beaten, the OC explained, "From what we have learnt initially, the two were caught by pedestrians while attempting to commit a snatching in the West Police Station area. The people then dragged them to the footbridge and gave them a public beating."

Meanwhile, a video of the public beating has gone viral on social media. The video shows several pedestrians tying ropes around the youths' legs and hanging them upside down from the footbridge before beating them with sticks.
