The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to construct three alternative corridors to alleviate severe traffic congestion on Pragati Sarani, a key artery in the capital.

The corridors will connect the second U-turn of the Purbachal Expressway to United International University, Aftab Nagar, and Rampura.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz inspected the proposed sites on Saturday, May 3, accompanied by Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Moin Uddin, Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, and representatives from other agencies.

Azaz announced that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), RAJUK, and MRT authorities will collaborate with DNCC to execute the plan.

“Opening these corridors will significantly reduce traffic jams on Pragati Sarani and ease congestion in surrounding areas,” Azaz said.

He noted that ongoing metro rail construction has worsened traffic, causing significant public inconvenience. To address this, DNCC is prioritising diversion roads and service lanes.

Azaz also confirmed cooperation from Bashundhara, Swadesh, and other housing projects after discussions with their representatives.
