Ex-AL MP Momotaz arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested singer and former Manikganj-2 lawmaker Momotaz Begom in Dhaka.
She was arrested from a house located behind Star Kabab in Dhanmondi around 11:45 pm on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest to Jago News, stating that she is currently being held at the DB office on Minto Road in the capital.
According to sources, multiple murder cases have been filed against renowned singer and former Member of Parliament Momotaz in connection with the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Police stated that she will be produced before the court on Tuesday, and a remand petition will be submitted.
Momotaz, who last contested the 12th parliamentary election from the Manikganj-2 constituency as a heavyweight candidate of the ruling Awami League under the ‘boat’ symbol, failed to secure victory. She lost to independent candidate Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu.
In 2009, Momotaz was nominated to a reserved seat for women in the 9th National Parliament by the Awami League. Later, in 2014, she was elected from Manikganj-2 and served as a Member of Parliament.
