Ex-CEC Nurul Huda on fresh remand
A Dhaka court has placed former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AKM Nurul Huda on a four-day remand in a case filed on charges of sedition and election rigging.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zonayed passed the order on Friday, June 27, after the police produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Lawyer Md Obaidul Islam stood for the accused in the court, while Public Prosecutor Omar Faruki represented the state.
Earlier on Monday, June 23, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman put the former CEC on a four-day remand in the same case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital.
On June 22, local people detained Nurul Huda in the capital's Uttara and later, handed over to the police.
His arrest came hours after the BNP filed the case on June 22 against 24 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs), including Nurul Huda, Election Commissioners (ECs), members of law enforcement agencies, and officials from various state institutions, in connection with the national elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024.
