Ex-Chief Justice Khairul Haque detained
Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque was detained on Thursday morning by the Detective Branch (DB) of police from his house in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the detention to Jago News.
He said Khairul Haque was taken to the DB office after being detained. He is facing multiple cases.
Earlier, a case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station last year under Sections 219 and 466 of the Penal Code, accusing Khairul Haque of delivering an “unlawful verdict” and preparing a “forged judgment” while serving as a judge, by scrapping the caretaker government system in a “corrupt and biased” manner.
Khairul Haque served as the Chief Justice from October 1, 2010, to May 17, 2011. On July 23, 2013, he was appointed Chairman of the Law Commission for a three-year term. His tenure was later extended multiple times.
