5 Anti-Discrimination Movement leaders sued for extortion
A case has been filed against five leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement on charges of allegedly demanding Tk 50 lakh extortion from a former lawmaker in Dhaka's Gulshan.
Anzuman Ara, duty officer at the Gulshan police station, confirmed the matter on Sunday, July 27.
The accused are Ibrahim Hossain Munna, convener of Dhaka Metropolitan unit of Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, members Md Sakadaun and Sadab, the platform's Dhaka Metropolitan unit senior organiser and central sports cell member Abdur Razzak Bin Sulaiman alias Riyad and Aminul Islam.
On Saturday night, July 26, the police detained the five student leaders on allegations of allegedly demanding Tk 50 lakh from former reserved seat lawmaker Shammi Ahmed at her residence in Dhaka's Gulshan.
Gulshan police station's officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman last night said the five youths first visited Shammi Ahmed’s residence a few days ago and demanded Tk 50 lakh. They allegedly took Tk 10 lakh on that day.
When they went to the house last night again to collect remaining Tk 40 lakh extortion, family members informed the police about this and the law enforcers, later, detained them and took to the police station, OC Hafizur had said.
