50 shops gutted in Gazipur market fire
At least 50 shops were gutted in a fire at a market in the Chandna Chowrasta area of Gazipur city on Thursday morning. The blaze broke out around 6:00am.
Five units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control within an hour, said Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Mamun.
According to fire service and local sources, the fire originated from a shop at a market adjacent to Shapla Mansion near Chandna Chowrasta. The flames quickly spread to nearby shops. On receiving information, five fire-fighting units reached the spot and began efforts to douse the blaze. The fire was brought under control around 7:30am after nearly an hour of intense effort.
At least 50 shops, along with their goods, were completely destroyed in the incident. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined after investigation, said the fire service official.
