Poet detained for alleged derogatory remarks about heaven
Poet, cultural activist, and graphic designer Shamim Ashraf has been detained in Mymensingh for allegedly making derogatory remarks about heaven. Police detained him from the Gulki Bari area of the city around 8:30 pm on Monday (October 6).
Shamim Ashraf, son of Md Alim Uddin of Hargujir Par in Ward 29, is also the owner of ‘Graffiti,’ located at Ampotti intersection in Mymensingh.
The matter was confirmed to Jago News by Mymensingh District Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Muhidul Islam. He said Shamim Ashraf had posted derogatory comments about heaven on Facebook, sparking controversy and offending religious sentiments. Acting on information about his location, police detained him at night.
Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Kazi Akhtarul Alam said that a case is being processed against Shamim Ashraf, and he will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
