13 sued over Juba Dal leader Kibria murder

A case has been filed against 13 people, including eight unidentified, over the death of Juba Dal leader Golam Kibria, who was gunned down at a shop in Dhaka's Mirpur.

The victim's wife, Sabiha Aktar, filed the case with the Pallabi police station on Tuesday, November 18, said Muahammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The named accused are Md Jony Bhuiyan, 25, Sohel alias Pata Sohel alias Monir Hossain, 30, Sohag alias Kallu, 27, Masum alias Bhagina Masum, 28, and Rokan, 30.

A person has, so far, been arrested in connection with the murder, and the police began a drive to apprehend other accused, he said.

In a shocking display of targeted murder and indiscriminate violence, masked and helmeted gunmen stormed into a hardware shop in Mirpur’s Pallabi area and shot dead Golam Kibria, 47, the member secretary of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal’s Pallabi thana unit, on Monday evening, November 17.

The attack took place around 6:40pm at C Block, Section-12, Mirpur, when three armed assailants entered the shop and opened fire at point-blank range.

As they fled the scene on a motorcycle, the attackers also shot Arif Hossain, 18, a battery-run autorickshaw driver, leaving him critically injured.
