Advisers Asif, Mahfuj step down
Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam have stepped down from their respective positions.
They submitted their resignation letters on Wednesday evening, December 10, a source in the Chief Adviser’s Office confirmed.
Appointed at the beginning of the interim government’s formation, Asif Mahmud was initially given charge of the Labour and Employment and Youth and Sports ministries.
Later, excluding the Labour Ministry, he was assigned responsibilities for the Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Ministry.
Mahfuj Alam was initially appointed as an adviser with no portfolio. On February 26, he was appointed as an adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
He was given the new role following Nahid Islam's resignation from the advisory council on February 25.
Excluding the Chief Adviser, the Advisory Council comprises 22 advisers. With the resignations of Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam, the number is now 20.
The Chief Advisor directly oversees five ministries and divisions, while all but 10 advisers manage multiple portfolios.
