11 units fighting Islambagh plastic warehouse blaze
A major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at a plastic warehouse in the Islambagh area of Lalbagh, Dhaka, prompting a swift emergency response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).
The blaze was reported at approximately 1:30 pm, with flames rapidly spreading through the warehouse located in the Chairmangaht section of Islambagh, under Lalbagh Police Station.
Rozina Akhter, duty officer at the FSCD control room, confirmed the incident and said four firefighting units were dispatched immediately. Six additional units from Lalbagh, Hazaribagh, and Palashi stations arrived by 1:50 pm, with three more en route from Siddique Bazar – bringing the total deployment to 11 units.
Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector at the FSCD headquarters media cell, stated that the fire originated inside a plastic product-manufacturing facility and intensified quickly due to the highly flammable nature of the stored materials.
As of late afternoon, firefighters were still working to fully contain the blaze. Officials confirmed that no casualties had been reported so far, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident has caused significant disruption in the densely populated residential and commercial neighbourhood, with thick black smoke visible across parts of Old Dhaka. Local authorities have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety while rescue and containment operations continue.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
