Govt proposes 657 judicial magistrates for election duties
The government has proposed to assign 657 judges as judicial magistrates to ensure the speedy trial of election offenses during the 13th parliamentary elections.
The Law and Justice Division sent a letter in this regard to the Election Commission secretary on Thursday, February 5.
After consulting with the Supreme Court, a proposal has been sent to the Election Commission to assign 657 judges of the Judicial Service as judicial magistrates for five days from February 10 to 14 in 300 constituencies ahead of the national elections scheduled for February 12, the letter said.
They will take electoral offenses into account and shortly complete the trial as per the Representation of the People Order, 1972.
Earlier on Tuesday, February 3, the Ministry of Public Administration appointed 1,051 executive magistrates who will conduct mobile courts in assigned areas from February 8 to February 14 during the polls.
