President to administer oath to Speaker, Deputy Speaker: Salahuddin
The first session of the 13th National Parliament will begin on Thursday at 11 am, during which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected. They will take their oaths, administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (March 11) after leaving parliament, BNP Standing Committee member and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said several historic decisions could be made during the session. He added that, in accordance with parliamentary rules, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will take their oaths, and the session is expected to continue until March 15, after which a recess may follow.
Salahuddin Ahmed also stated that once the parliamentary session begins, proceedings will be guided by public expectations, the aspirations of martyrs, and the agreements reached in the July Charter.
Meanwhile, LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the final decision regarding the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be made by the parliamentary leader.
According to sources, the ruling party meeting discussed preparations for the first parliamentary session, potential decisions, and the conduct of parliamentary business.
