Families of 18 Rajbari bus victims receive govt aid
The government has provided financial assistance to the families of 18 passengers from Rajbari who died after a bus sank in the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat.
Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akter confirmed the matter around 9:45 pm on Thursday, March 26.
She said each affected family in Rajbari received Tk 25,000 as government assistance, while two injured victims were given Tk 15,000 each.
In addition, compensation for eight other victims, four from Kushtia and one each from Gopalganj, Dinajpur, Dhaka and Jhenaidah, has been sent through the respective district administrations.
The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the bodies of all 26 victims were handed over to their families without autopsy for burial.
The fatal accident occurred when a passenger bus plunged into the river while attempting to board a ferry at the busy Daulatdia terminal, one of the country’s key river transport hubs.
The incident resulted in the deaths of 26 people, triggering widespread grief and concern over ferry terminal safety.
