Ex-JaPa MP Shariful arrested in Dhaka
Shariful Islam Jinnah, former lawmaker for Bogura-2 constituency, has been arrested by the District Detective Branch (DB) of police from Ramna in Dhaka early Friday, March 27.
Jinnah, the president of the district Jatiya Party (JaPa), is an accused in multiple cases, including a murder case linked to a death during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Confirming the arrest, Bogura district DB officer-in-charge Iqbal Bahar said that a team of police, based on intelligence information, conducted a special drive in the capital and arrested him from there.
A case was filed against Jinnah with Shibganj Police Station under the Explosives Act and sections of the Penal Code on October 7 last year. He had been absconding since then, the OC added.
Around 10 cases, including charges related to murder and explosives, are currently under trial in court.
