11 live, nine slaughtered horses seized at Purbachal

Police have seized 11 live horses and nine slaughtered ones during a raid at the Purbachal New Town Project in Narayanganj.
The horses were seized from a secluded plot at Harar Bari under Sector 10 on Friday morning, March 27.
On information that a gang of fraudsters was slaughtering horses at the lone plot, a team of police rushed there; however, the ring members fled the scene after sensing the presence of law enforcers, said Purbachal Police outpost camp in-charge Harun Or Rashid.
Later, 11 live horses and nine slaughtered ones were recovered from the spot, he said, adding that a process is underway to identify the dishonest cycle.
The ring has been selling horse meat as beef at various restaurants at the Purbachal New Town Project, he also said.
