Two children died on Monday exhibiting symptoms of measles at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). In addition, 138 children are currently admitted to the hospital as suspected measles cases.

Dr Shankar K. Biswas, the hospital’s media spokesperson and Emergency Medical Officer, provided this information to the media on Monday (6 April) at around 11:00 am.

According to Dr Biswas, between 9:00 am Sunday and 9:00 am Monday, two children died at the hospital due to measles. During this period, 20 children were admitted as suspected measles cases, and five patients recovered and were discharged. Taking both new and previous cases into account, the total number of children currently admitted with suspected measles stands at 138.

He also stated that so far, 42 deaths have occurred due to suspected measles.

Dr Biswas added that patient admissions at RMCH were higher on Sunday than before. If the patient load continues to rise, there are plans to convert an entire pediatric ward into a measles isolation unit. Meanwhile, under the direction of the Health Secretary, efforts are underway to transfer measles-affected children in the ICU to the Heart Foundation Hospital in Rajshahi.
