Voting for the reserved seats for women in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will be held on May 12, with the Election Commission (EC) set to announce the election schedule on April 8.

Senior Secretary of the EC Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the date on Monday afternoon, following the commission’s 11th meeting at its Agargaon office.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, lasted around three and a half hours.

Under existing law, 50 reserved seats for women are allocated proportionately based on the results of the 300 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad.

According to the current distribution, BNP is expected to secure 36 seats, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami 12, while independent members may obtain two seats if they form an alliance.

The National Citizen (NCP) is likely to receive one seat.

Smaller parties, however, will not be allocated any reserved seats unless they join an alliance, officials said.
