2 fishermen missing after boat capsizes in Khulna storm

Two fishermen went missing after their boat capsized amid a sudden storm in the Shakbaria river area of Koyra upazila in Khulna on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred near Jorshingh village of South Bedkashi union in the upazila.

The missing fishermen were identified as Upen Mridha, 50 and Mukenda Mandal, 42, both residents of Jorshing village.

According to locals, the storm struck suddenly while Upen, Mukenda and Bipul were in the river, causing their boat to overturn. Strong currents swept away the two fishermen, while Bipul Roy, managed to reach the shore safely.

Following the accident, local residents immediately launched search and rescue operations. However, as of the latest reports, the two fishermen remain unaccounted for.

Abu Bakar Siddiq, a member of the South Bedkashi union parishad, said locals promptly joined efforts to locate the missing fishermen.

Confirming the matter, Koyra police station officer-in-charge Zahidul Islam said that police have been assisting in the ongoing search and rescue operation. 

Efforts are underway to find the missing fishermen, he added.
