JS passes 91 bills to convert Yunus-era ordinances into laws
The Jatiya Sangsad has passed a total of 91 bills converting ordinances promulgated during the interim government into laws, within the stipulated time of 30 days after the first meeting of Parliament, in line with the Constitution.
Of them, 24 bills, including the Bank Resolution Bill, 2026, the Cyber Security Bill, 2026, the July Uprising Memorial Museum Bill, 2026 and the Welfare and Rehabilitation of the Families of Martyrs and July Fighters of the July Uprising Bill, 2026, were passed on Friday (the final day).
Earlier, 67 bills were passed in the House to turn the ordinances, released during the interim government regime, into permanent laws. Two bills were passed on 5th April, while seven bills on 6th April, 14 bills on 7th April, 13 bills on 8th April and 31 bills on 9th April.
Out of the 133 ordinances issued during the interim government, the parliamentary special committee recommended approval to 98 bills in their original form and 15 in amended form.
The special committee, formed to review the 133 ordinances issued during the interim government's tenure, placed its report in the House on April 02 last.
Out of the remaining 20 ordinances, the special committee recommended repealing four ordinances, while bringing back 16 new bills in a strengthened form.
However, 91 bills were finally passed in totality in the House to turn the ordinances into permanent laws with the stipulated 30 days in line with Article 93 of the Constitution.
On Friday, all 24 bills except several ones, including the Bank Resolution Bill, 2026, were passed unanimously as no amendment proposals were placed on the bills clause by clause, resulting in no discussion in the House on the bills.
The concerned ministers placed and moved the bills and those were later passed by voice votes.
The 24 bills include the Narayanganj Development Authority Bill, 2026, Barishal Development Authority Bill, 2026, Mymensingh Development Authority Bill, 2026, Cumilla Development Authority Bill, 2026, Rangpur Development Authority Bill, 2026, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the July Uprising Memorial Museum Bill, 2026, the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation Bill, 2026 and the Wildlife (Conservation and Protection) Bill, 2026.
The bills also include the Deposit Protection Bill, 2026, Excises and Salt Bill, 2026, Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2026, Bangladesh Bank (Amendment) Bill, 2026, Grameen Bank (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Bank Resolution Bill, 2026 and the Finance (2025-26) Fiscal Year Bill, 2026, the Dhaka Central University Bill, 2026 and University related several laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the National Data Management Bill, 2026.
The remaining bills are the Cyber Security Bill, 2026, the Moheshkhali Integrated Development Authority Bill, 2026, and the Prevention of Oppression against Women and Children (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Welfare and Rehabilitation of the Families of Martyrs and July Fighters of the July Uprising Bill, 2026, the Smoking and Tobacco Products (Control) (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
