2 killed in Narsingdi AL factional clash

Two people have been killed and at least 30 others injured in a clash between two factions of the Awami League over a land dispute and dominance in Narsingdi.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Bashgari Union, Raipura Upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Alamgir Hossain Alam (32) and Ali Ahmed (24), both supporters of former UP Chairman Ashraful Islam.

According to police and local residents, there had been an ongoing conflict between Ashraful Islam, the former chairman of Bashgari Union, and the current chairman, Zakir Hossain, over control of the area. This dispute had led to multiple clashes between the two factions, resulting in several casualties and counter-cases.

At around 7:30 am today, the two groups clashed, armed with spears, machetes, knives, and homemade firearms. During the clash, Alamgir Hossain and Ali Ahmed were shot dead by the opposing group. At least 30 people from both sides were injured.

Upon receiving the news, police from Raipura Police Station were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals in Narsingdi, Nabinagar, Banchharampur, and other areas for treatment.

Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Adil Mahmud confirmed that the clash was triggered by a struggle for land and dominance between the two factions of the Awami League. One person was killed, and several others were injured. Police are working to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, DSB Police Officer Mahabub Hassan stated that one person died at Sadar Hospital and another at the District Hospital due to injuries sustained in the clash.
