Jamaat thanks Russia for 1971 war support

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday expressed gratitude to Russia for its support during the country’s 1971 War of Independence.
The message was delivered during a visit by Russian Ambassador Alexander G Khozin to the party’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
The meeting covered various bilateral issues.
Afterward, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Amir, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, told reporters that the ambassador was briefed on the party’s vision for Bangladesh’s future.
He emphasised appreciation for Russia’s role in the 1971 Liberation War.
He also noted Russia’s interest in investing in Bangladesh.
The two sides also reportedly discussed the timing of upcoming elections.
