Ilias Kanchan set to launch new political party

Renowned film actor and road safety activist Ilias Kanchan is all set to officially announce the formation of a new political party. 

The event is scheduled to take place at 10:00am on April 25 at the Ruposhi Bangla Grand Ballroom of InterContinental Dhaka, where he will unveil the name of his party.  

According to sources, the party is likely to be named Jantar Party Bangladesh. This information was confirmed by Liton Arshad, Vice Chairman of the Nirappad Sarak Chai Andolan (NISCHA), a movement founded by Ilias Kanchan himself.  

Ilias Kanchan has been a prominent figure in advocating for road safety in Bangladesh for decades. His activism gained momentum following the tragic death of his wife, Jahanara Kanchan, in a road accident in 1993. Since then, he has been at the forefront of building a social movement to ensure safer roads in the country through NISCHA.  

Despite being encouraged to enter politics on several occasions, this marks Ilias Kanchan’s first direct foray into the political arena. Known for his dedication to public causes, his entry into politics is expected to draw significant attention from both supporters and observers of Bangladesh's political landscape.
