Sarjis vows to 'bury Mujibism' after violent attack in Gopalganj

In the wake of a violent attack on the National Citizen Party (NCP) convoy in Gopalganj on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the party’s northern region chief coordinator, Sarjis Alam, issued a defiant statement on Facebook, vowing to “build a grave for Mujibism” if he survives the ordeal.

The assault, allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the banned Awami League, has transformed Gopalganj into a volatile battleground, prompting NCP leaders to seek refuge.

Following the attack on the NCP’s motorcade after a rally in Gopalganj town, Sarjis Alam took to social media to condemn the violence. “In Gopalganj, the murderer Hasina’s agents have attacked us. The police are standing by, watching the drama, retreating,” he wrote. “If we return from here alive, we will return after building a grave for Mujibabad [Mujibism], or we will not return.”

He issued a rallying cry, urging, “People from all over Bangladesh, come to Gopalganj. The conscientious student population of Gopalganj, wake up. Today is the last day to build a grave for the agents.”

His remarks reflect deep frustration with the alleged inaction of law enforcement and the lingering influence of Mujibism, the ideology associated with the Awami League.
