Manna gets back nomination for Bogura-2

The Election Commission (EC) has restored the nomination paper of Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, a hopeful for the Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency in the upcoming national polls.

The decision came after a hearing of his appeal against the cancellation of his nomination at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka's Agargaon on Sunday afternoon, January 11.

On January 2, the Commission declared his nomination paper invalid after scrutiny, citing inconsistencies in the information provided in Manna’s affidavit.

Earlier on December 24, the High Court rejected a writ petition filed by Manna, seeking a directive to remove his name from the list of loan defaulters – effectively barring him from contesting the 13th parliamentary elections.

On December 29, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court suspended his name from the list of loan defaulters.

According to lawyers, the court decision removes any legal barrier to his participation in the upcoming elections.
