Nasiruddin Patwary loses to Mirza Abbas by small margin

Jamaat-led alliance candidate and National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has lost to BNP heavyweight candidate Mirza Abbas by a narrow margin in the Dhaka-8 constituency.

Unofficial results showed BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas secured 59,366 votes, while his nearest candidate, Nasiruddin Patwary, received 54,127, falling short by 5,239 votes.

Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury, divisional commissioner (Returning Officer), Dhaka, announced the results.

Voting in the 13th parliamentary elections and the referendum was held in 299 constituencies simultaneously on Thursday, February 12, largely peacefully. Election to the Sherpur-3 seat has been postponed following the death of a candidate.

In the elections, BNP secured victory in more than 200 seats, while the Jamaat-backed alliance bagged around 70.
