NCP seals victory in six constituencies
Six candidates from the National Citizen Party (NCP), founded after the July uprising in 2024, have sealed victory in six constituencies in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.
The party, a key partner of the Jamaat-backed 11-party alliance, contested the polls in 30 seats.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam defeated the BNP candidate in Dhaka-11 constituency, while Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain secured victory in Rangpur-4 and Chief Organiser (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah won in Cumilla by a landslide.
Apart from this, Abdullah Al Amin won in Narayanganj-4, Atiqur Rahman Muzahid in Kurigram-2, and Abdul Hannan Masud in Noakhali-6.
Voting in the national elections and the referendum took place simultaneously in 299 constituencies, largely peacefully. Election to the Sherpur-3 seat has been postponed following the death of a candidate.
In polls, the BNP secured a majority by winning more than 200 seats, while the 11-party alliance won in over 70 seats.
