Mamunur Rashid Mamun, a central leader of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a Project Implementation Official and an office assistant in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon.

Police said Mamun was detained from his residence in Dinajpur around 9:00 pm on Friday in a case linked to an assault at the Project Implementation Officer (PIO) office.

According to the case statement, tensions erupted on Tuesday night when a group led by Mamun entered the PIO office over the issue of keeping the office open after working hours. The situation escalated into a confrontation, during which officials were allegedly attacked, leaving the Project Implementation Officer and an office assistant injured.

A video footage of the incident has also circulated widely on social media.

A case was later filed by PIO Noornabi Islam with Ranishankail Police Station, accusing Mamun and several others of carrying out an “ambush-style” attack during official duties.

Confirming the matter, Ranishankail Police Station officer-in-charge Amanullah Al Bari said that they arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in the incident.

They were trying to arrest the rest of other accused, he said, adding that legal action would be taken against them.
