Mehidy Hasan Miraz produced a composed century to help Bangladesh post 444 in their first innings and take a 217-run lead over Zimbabwe on the third day of the second Test.

Before Mehdiy, Shadman Islam also hit a century for the hosts.

Zimbabwe’s debutante Vincent Masekesa bagged five wickets for 115 runs, becoming only third Zimbabwe bowler to register a five-for on Test debut.

Resuming at 291 for 7 in the morning, the hosts had lost momentum late on Day 2 but were steadied by Mehidy’s brilliant knock and a good effort from debutant Tanzim Hasan.

Earlier in the session, Mehidy had forged a 63-run partnership with Taijul Islam, who made 20 before becoming leg-spinner Vincent Masakesa’s fourth victim.

Despite the overcast skies and a brief 17-minute rain interruption in the morning, Bangladesh dominated the session, adding 113 runs for the loss of just one wicket before lunch.

Zimbabwe socred 227 in the first innings after winning the toss.
