Ending rumours, BCB boss Bulbul returns finally
For weeks, it was all whispers and questions – where is Bulbul, and when will he return?
As the days of Ramadan passed into Eid and then beyond, speculation around Aminul Islam Bulbul only grew louder. Some said he would be back by March 26 or 27 after spending Eid with family in Australia. Those dates came and went. March 28 slipped by too. The question lingered in the cricket arena.
Now, there is finally an answer.
A midnight arrival, a sigh of relief
Ending all uncertainty, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board has returned home. Bulbul landed in Dhaka from Sydney on a Singapore Airlines flight late Saturday night.
Several BCB directors confirmed his arrival, drawing a line under days of discussion and bringing a sense of closure – at least on one front.
More than just a return
But Bulbul’s homecoming is not just about ending rumours. It comes at a critical moment for Bangladesh cricket’s administrative landscape.
A group of cricket organisers, sidelined in last October’s BCB elections, have challenged the process, alleging irregularities, lack of transparency, and external influence. The allegations prompted the National Sports Council to form a five-member probe committee led by a retired judge.
With a report expected within the first half of April, the timing of Bulbul’s return could prove significant.
Questions waiting on the ground
At the centre of the debate are claims that councilorships were sought outside established rules, and that the election process itself lacked clarity. Critics have repeatedly questioned Bulbul’s role.
The probe committee has already been in touch with him remotely. Now, with the BCB president back in Dhaka, a face-to-face interaction appears imminent.
The road ahead
For Bulbul, the return marks more than the end of speculation. It signals the start of an important phase – balancing leadership of the cricket board while addressing scrutiny over the election process.
In the coming days, as he resumes duties and potentially appears before investigators, one thing will become clearer: whether this return steadies the field or stirs it further.
