Remittance hits $1.93b in 26 days of July
Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $1.93 billion in remittances during the first 26 days of July, the opening month of the 2025–26 fiscal year. In Bangladeshi currency, based on an exchange rate of Tk 122 per dollar, this amounts to approximately Tk 23,582.60 crore.
The information was confirmed on Sunday (July 27) by Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank.
According to data from the central bank, this year’s figure for the first 26 days of July marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year, when remittance inflows stood at $155.90 crore. As a result, the country received $37.40 crore or approximately Tk 4,563 crore more in remittances year-on-year.
In the final month of the previous 2024–25 fiscal year, Bangladesh received $281.80 crore in remittances through banking channels. In local currency, that amount exceeded Tk 34,404 crore. During that month, the average daily remittance inflow was about $9.40 crore or Tk 1,147 crore.
June’s figure represents the third-highest monthly remittance inflow in the country’s history. The second-highest was recorded in May, when remittances totaled $2.97 billion, while the highest ever was in March, with a record-breaking $3.29 billion in remittances.
From July to June in the 2024–25 fiscal year, Bangladesh received a total of $30.33 billion in remittances, reflecting a 26.8 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. In 2023–24, total remittance inflow stood at $23.91 billion.
Monthly figures for the last fiscal year showed consistent growth. In July, remittances stood at $191.37 crore, followed by $222.13 crore in August, $240.41 crore in September, and $239.50 crore in October. In November, the figure was $220 crore, and in December, it rose to $264 crore. January saw $219 crore, February $253 crore, March $329 crore, April $275 crore, May $297 crore, and finally, June recorded $282 crore in remittances.
