KUET reopens, teachers firm on not returning to classes

After being closed for 74 days, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) reopened on Sunday. However, despite the resumption of administrative activities, the teachers' association has firmly decided not to return to the classrooms. They have stated that classes will not resume until those responsible for the assault on faculty members are punished.
Professor Dr Mohammad Faruk Hossain, General Secretary of the KUET Teachers' Association, stated, "We will not resume academic activities until those who caused the unrest and assaulted the Vice Chancellor and faculty members on February 18 are brought to justice." He added that this decision was communicated to the newly appointed Acting Vice Chancellor on Saturday, May 3.
The university had been closed on February 25 following a violent clash on February 18, and the situation has remained tense since. In response to a student-led movement and an indefinite hunger strike, the government removed the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor on April 25.
On May 1, Professor Dr. Mohammad Hazrat Ali, from the Department of Civil Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), was appointed as the new Acting Vice Chancellor.
