Body formed to reach consensus over engineers' demands

A committee has been formed to reach a consensus on the demands pressed by the protesting BSc, and diploma engineers, and a promise has been made not to stage protest until the committee submits its report.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the committee formed to give recommendation examining the rational of the professional demands of BSc degree and diploma-holding engineers.

Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, chairman of the committee, told the reporters after the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, September 17.

A total of 60 individuals, including university vice-chancellors, polytechnic institutes' principals, and heads of the educational institutions of two groups of engineers attended the meeting, he stated.

Fouzul Kabir said the claims of the two protesting groups are contrary, and one will be dissatisfied if the demands of another are accepted.

"That is why, we are trying to create a bridge between them to reach a consensus. Accordingly, a six-member committee has been formed based on their suggestions," the adviser added.

He also said the attendees made a pledge not to stage any movement and create suffering to people until the committee's recommendations come.
