The government has decided to defer the assistant teacher recruitment test in government primary schools, scheduled for January 2, citing state mourning declared over the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, as well as the country's overall situation.

The committee formed to recommend the appointment of assistant teachers in government primary schools decided this in a meeting, and a formal announcement will be made soon.

Primary and Mass Education Ministry official Md Shahadat Hossain confirmed the matter to Jago News around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 30.

However, no decision has been taken about when the exam will be held subsequently.

Earlier today, the Directorate of Primary Education stated that the exam will take place on January 2 as usual, saying that there is no bar to holding the test on a day of state mourning.
