Candidates of the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel have once again taken the lead in the posts of Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), and Assistant General Secretary (AGS) in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) elections.

The Election Commission of the JnUCSU polls has so far announced the results of 23 centers out of a total of 40.

Earlier, after the counting of votes from 20 centres, Chhatra Dal’s VP candidate AKM Rakib was in the lead. The results from three newly counted centers have brought about this dramatic change.

Around 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 7, the latest results from the Department of Mathematics, Islamic Studies, and the Institute of Education and Research (IER) were announced.

In the 23 centres counted so far, Shibir’s VP candidate Riazul Islam has secured 2,819 votes, while his closest rival, AKM Rakib of Chhatra Dal, has received 2,691 votes. The margin between the two candidates stands at 128 votes.

In the GS race, Shibir panel candidate Abdul Alim Arif has received 2,982 votes, whereas Chhatra Dal panel candidate Khadijat-ul-Kubra has secured 1,213 votes. Meanwhile, in the AGS post, Shibir panel candidate Masud Rana is leading with 2,646 votes, while his nearest competitor, Atiqur Rahman Tanzil from the Chhatra Dal panel, has received 2,320 votes.

Although the Shibir-supported panel is ahead in the top three posts as well as most of the editorial positions, Chhatra Dal is still leading in the Library Secretary and Cultural Secretary posts. Additionally, several candidates from the Chhatra Dal supported panel are in strong positions in the Executive Member posts.
