Law and order command centre goes into action this evening: Shafiqul

In a bid to closely monitor and address the law and order situation across Bangladesh, the command centre will commence operations at 6:00pm on Sunday (February 9), under the directive of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
This initiative aims to strengthen coordination among various law enforcement agencies and ensure prompt responses to potential threats.
The command centre, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, will involve members from multiple forces, including the Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, and Armed Forces Battalions. By centralizing efforts, the government hopes to enhance national security and maintain stability during this critical period.
At a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Sunday, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced the launch of the command centre.
He emphasised its role in taking immediate action whenever there is a risk of deterioration in the law and order situation, whether in the capital or elsewhere in the country.
Shafiqul explained that the establishment of this common platform would streamline communication and collaboration between different agencies. "If any area faces unrest or security challenges, the command centre will swiftly coordinate necessary interventions," he said.
This decision follows a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Adviser, where concerns over the current law and order scenario were discussed. Attended by Home Affairs Adviser, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Home Affairs, and senior officials from law enforcement agencies, the meeting underscored the importance of coordinated efforts to tackle emerging issues effectively.
Professor Yunus directed the creation of the command centre to ensure seamless cooperation among agencies. Starting this evening, representatives from each agency under the Home Affairs Ministry will work together to oversee and respond to developments in real-time.
The launch of the command centre marks a significant step toward reinforcing public safety and addressing vulnerabilities in the existing system. Authorities are optimistic that this measure will contribute to maintaining peace and order nationwide, particularly as the interim government navigates ongoing reforms and transitions.
