Army granted magistracy power for 60 more days

The government has once again extended the magistracy power granted to commissioned officers of the armed forces holding the rank of captain, or its equivalent, and above for an additional 60 days.
The government has also extended this authority to officers on deputation in the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday states that this provision will take effect from March 15 and remain in force for the next 60 days.
According to the notification, commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army holding the rank of captain and above (including those on deputation in the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh) are granted the powers of a Special Executive Magistrate under Sections 12(1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
Previously, the tenure of their executive magistrate powers had been extended for 60 days, from January 13. This period was set to expire on Friday, March 14.
