The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police arrested former Member of Parliament (MP) for Noakhali-2 constituency and Chairman of Bengal Group and private television channel RTV, Morshed Alam, in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

The arrest was confirmed to Jago News later that night by Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick.

He said that Morshed Alam, who is accused in multiple cases, was arrested from the capital’s Gulshan area. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday with a plea for remand.

According to sources, Morshed Alam was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Noakhali-2 constituency in the 10th National Parliamentary Election in 2014 as a candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League. He was re-elected from the same constituency in both the 11th and 12th National Elections in 2018 and 2024 respectively.
