Suspected mugger killed in mob beating in Mohammadpur

A young man named Rakib Hossain (21) was killed in a mob beating after being suspected of mugging in the City Housing area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka. His alleged accomplice, Milon Hossain (38), was injured in the incident.
Milon was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Inspector (Investigation) of Mohammadpur Police Station, Hafiz Uddin, said that on Thursday, Rakib and Milon had allegedly attempted to mug a man at knifepoint with a machete on Road No. 4 in the City Housing area. When the victim screamed for help, locals rushed to the scene, detained the two suspects, and severely beat them.
Upon receiving the news, police rescued Rakib and Milon from the enraged crowd and took them to the hospital, where Rakib succumbed to his injuries around noon. Milon is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
A machete was recovered from the suspects, Inspector Hafiz Uddin said, adding that Rakib had a prior theft case filed against him at Mohammadpur Police Station.
Legal proceedings are currently underway, he added.
