Woman missing after falling into open manhole in Tongi
A woman went missing after reportedly falling into an uncovered manhole in Tongi, Gazipur, on Sunday night (July 27). The incident occurred around 9:00 pm near the Hossain Market area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
Fire service personnel are continuing rescue efforts to locate the missing woman, whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
According to police and local sources, the woman fell into the manhole beside the highway on Sunday night. Locals initially tried to rescue her, but when they failed, they informed the fire service.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and began rescue operations.
Md Shahin Alam, a senior official of the Fire Service, told Jago News on Monday morning that the search inside the manhole began at 7:00 am. As of 10:00 am, no trace of the missing woman had been found.
He added that the manhole is approximately ten feet deep and was filled with water due to continuous rainfall throughout the day.
Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iskandar Habibur Rahman said that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report. Fire service personnel are making continued efforts to rescue the woman.
