Anis Alamgir shown arrested in graft case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday showed journalist Anis Alamgir arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a petition filed by the ACC.

The anti-graft body filed the case on January 15.

Investigation Officer and ACC Assistant Director Akhteruzzaman pleaded to show Anis arrested in the case on January 25.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) picked Anis Alamgir up and took him into their custody on December 14 last year.

Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed with the Uttara West police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Arian Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, filed the case against Anis Alamgir, actress Meher Afroz Shaon, fashion model Maria Kispotta, and presenter Imtu Ratish.
