Interim VC of KUET steps down

The interim vice-chancellor (VC) of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Prof Dr Md Hazrat Ali, has stepped down amid teachers’ movement seeking his resignation.

He submitted his resignation letter to the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday, May 21, the university’s Registrar Dr Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan said on Thursday, May 22.

In response to student protests and a hunger strike, the government removed then Vice Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Prof Mohammad Mashud, on April 25.

Later, Hazrat Ali of Civil Engineering Department was appointed as the interim VC on May 1.

But, teachers at the university demanded his resignation expressing a lack of confidence in his leadership and urged the government to appoint a permanent VC.
