Milestone tragedy: Death toll hits 35 as two more die
Two more victims of the fatal plane crash into Milestone School and College in Dhaka's Uttara died on Saturday morning, July 26, raising the death toll from the tragedy to 35.
The latest victims were Zarif, 13, a student at the school, and Masuma, an employee of the institution.
Of them, Masuma breathed her last around 10:15am and Zarif died at about 9:10am during treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital, said Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the facility.
Around 90 per cent of Masuma’s body and Zarif’s 40 per cent were burnt, said Dr Shawon.
He said 17 individuals who suffered burn injuries in the plane crash died so at the facility, he added.
On July 21, an FT-7 BGI fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force crashed into Milestone School and College shortly after taking off from the Kurmitola airbase. Of the 34 individuals who lost their lives in the incident, most were children.
